‘Drop Everything and Read’, our whole-school reading initiative started on Monday 18 April and has proved to be a great success. Head of Literacy at Myton, Julie Stevens said, “It was wonderful to see everyone reading this morning between 8.45am and 9am. The atmosphere was brilliant around the site and it was so great to see staff reading too.”
Every day between 8.45-9.00am and once a week during form tutor time (75 minutes a week) all students and staff are focused on reading. Students all need to have a reading book in their bag every day and there are lots of extra books and other reading materials around school to add to the choice available.
We’ve introduced this initiative at Myton in response to the growing body of evidence showing the link between reading for pleasure and educational and personal development.
