On Monday some of our keenest readers in Years 7 & 8 went to the Warwickshire Book Awards at the Bridge House Theatre, Warwick School. These awards were in memory of Elaine Dodson, a much loved member of staff at Myton School who sadly died at the end of 2015. Elaine’s husband Alan and daughter Jane were there to present the awards.
Over the past few months the students from Myton and other schools in the county have been reading, discussing and reviewing all of the shortlisted books:
- The Rain by Virginia Bergin
- Apple and Rain by Sarah Crossan
- If You Were Me by Sam Hepburn
- Smart by Kim Slater
- Would the Real Stanley Carrot Please Stand Up? by Rob Stevens
- Close to the Wind by Jon Walter
At the event they had the chance to meet all of the authors and hear them talk about their writing. The overall winner of the Warwickshire Book Award, as voted by the students, was Sarah Crossan for Apple and Rain. Sarah then came in to Myton in the afternoon to give a talk to our students about her books.
Congratulations to Grace Thompson (pictured here with Jane and Alan Dodson) who won a prize for her book reviews.
