On Tuesday 7 February four of our best and brightest mathematicians: Jasmin Rai, Timothy Cooper, Cameron Cowan and Ross Jubber competed in the finals of the UKMT Senior Maths Team Challenge in London.
You may remember that before Christmas, out of the 1,300 teams that took part in the regionals, they were one of only 88 teams to qualify for the finals. Since then, they have done a lot of practice, preparation and research in their own free time and on the day they truly did themselves, and the school, extremely proud!
They competed against teams from many private and state schools across England, Scotland and Wales; including a team containing a winner from TV’s ‘Child Genius’ who has an IQ greater than that of Stephen Hawking!
Although they did not win, they improved greatly on their position from last year; achieving 65th position (compared to 78th last year). Huge congratulations to all four of them! They are a real credit to the school.
