Congratulations to Thomas and Samuel White in Year 10, who were both recognised by the Rotary Club Children of Courage Awards 2019. The ceremony took place on Tuesday 5 March in Kenilworth and the guest of honour was Olympic Gold Medallist, David Moorcroft OBE.
The boys were awarded for their strength in adversity.
As Mr Matthews said in his speeches:
“Although there are physical challenges for Samuel, he continues to act as an independent young man who is willing to have a go at everything that he possibly can, not allowing his physical disability to get in his way. This is why I have great admiration for him and feel that he should be rewarded. He has a lot of characteristics that students from all schools could learn from.”
“What I most admire about Thomas is his determination to make a difference for himself and others. He said to me the other day ‘If Nelson Mandela changed the world, why can’t I create a fair and equal world?’ Thomas wants to make it possible for all people with disabilities to have the same opportunities as people who are able bodied.”
Thomas was then delighted when David Moorcroft referred to him in his speech and told him to go ahead and change the world.
Well done to both of you on these thoroughly-deserved awards!
