Dear Parents & Carers
We are looking for some help from our community. Before the summer, two of our senior students in Year 13, Lauren Fardoe and Sophie Shelton, put forward their ideas for trying to reduce the carbon footprint of our school. Their ultimate desire is to create a carbon neutral school. Our initial discussions highlighted the fact that, whilst we all know the term ‘carbon neutral’, a full understanding of what it entails and how to achieve it is harder to grasp.
Since then, a few other students have expressed a desire to be involved. This week Amita Kumar in Year 10 attended a public meeting with local MP Matt Western and asked a very pertinent and well informed question about carbon emissions. And more students are coming forward every day wanting to voice their concerns and get involved.
We are attempting to contact Warwick University to seek their help in starting this project however, if any parents are themselves (or know any) environmental scientists, or are experienced and qualified in this field and would like to help guide some extremely enthusiastic students through this project, please get in touch with me at [email protected]. This is clearly the right thing for us to do as a large organisation and has the added appeal of high levels of science and maths – perfect for school.
With best wishes
Mr Perry – Head Teacher
