Why study this subject?

This course offers a vocational experience for enthusiastic dancers. The subject encourages creativity, team work and communications skills.

What skills will I develop?

There will be opportunity to develop practical, appreciation and analytical skills. You will study, Ballet, Contemporary and Street dance as optional units and also study a practitioner. We will have a performance study unit as a mandatory unit.

What will I study?

Unit 1 – Investigating practitioners work

Unit 2 – Developing skills and techniques for live performance.

Unit 8 – Classical ballet technique

Unit 11 – Street dance

Unit 12 – Contemporary dance technique

How will I be assessed?

Five units, of which two are mandatory and one external. Mandatory content (50%). External assessment (33%)

What are my post-18 options?

BTEC is an acceptable course for most university courses, particularly if combined with other A level courses.

This practical course is an ideal preparation for further study or a career in the performing arts; including those wishing to pursue dance, musical theatre or performing.

What extra-curricular opportunities are there?

All extra-curricular activities are open to everyone at Myton.

There is an opportunity to form a sixth form dance group with associated performance opportunities.
