Dear Parents and Carers
A belated Happy New Year to everybody from us all here at a frozen solid Myton School, I hope the Christmas break was enjoyable. As we start the year, it seems like a good opportunity to talk to our exam students about the next few months as they approach their exams. It is rather sobering to consider that our Year 11s will be into their GCSE exams in around 14 school weeks, just 7 cycles of our two week timetable. However, as said in the Year 11 assembly this week, provided students see each day and each lesson as an opportunity, that is plenty of time to make big gains towards some successful outcomes. For example, Year 11s will have around 60-70 more Maths lessons before they complete their Maths GCSE (plus revision and intervention classes etc). If they see each lesson as an opportunity to add just one mark to their overall total, something which is well within their ability to do, they will see their grades go up by 2 or 3 from their mock. This is the same for all subjects, provided they remain positive and put in the right effort.
There is, however, a balance to be had. Some students aren’t working hard enough and need a sense of urgency to catch up, whereas others already feel the pressure and need to know there is still time to do everything they need to and have time to rest and for themselves. Whichever camp your child is in, provided they see each lesson as that opportunity to learn one more thing, add one more mark, they will have a very happy 2025.
Best wishes
Andy Perry
