Travel to Myton

Our recent travel survey showed that the majority (28%) of our students walk to school, closely followed by those who cycle to school (26%) and those who travel as a car passenger (22%), with 14% of our students taking the bus.

Myton School has a travel plan in place, which seeks to increase the numbers of students and staff travelling to school by foot, bike and bus, and aims to promote healthy, sustainable and environmentally friendly travel to Myton School for our students and staff.

We aim to achieve this through:

  • Promoting local and national sustainable travel initiatives
  • Providing information on public transport links to the school
  • Myton School staff incentives such as the Cycle to Work Scheme, lift share car club and the availability of EV chargers for staff
  • Encouraging the use of bikes through DR. Bike and BikeRegister bike marking sessions

By train

Warwick Station is an approximately 20 minute walk to Myton School, and Leamington Spa Station is a 30 minute walk.

Information on train times and services to/from Warwick and Leamington Stations can be found here.

By bus

You may be entitled to free transport for your child if you live over three miles from school and Myton School is your closest school or priority/catchment school. If your child is not entitled to free transport the vacant seats scheme allows them to travel on certain Warwickshire County Council services after all entitled travellers have been allocated.

There are a number of transport websites and apps available to help you plan your journey, whether that is by bus, train or bike.

Traveline – allows you to plan your journey with live times.

Citymapper – provides live, real-time public transport methods (bus, train and bike) and routes from your location to destination.

Trainline – book train tickets, check departure times, and platform information.

Google Maps – helps you to navigate your way to your destination.

At Myton we are delighted that so many (about 400) of our students choose to cycle to school and we continue to encourage cycling to school wherever possible.

Myton School can be accessed via a number of cycle lanes, and we have covered and lockable bicycle sheds on site for students/staff to keep their bikes secure during the day (an additional lock should also be used). We run Bikeability Cycle Training courses for our Year 7 students, teaching them advanced cycling skills, including how to negotiate and ride safely on more complex roads, and how to ride alongside other cyclists. We will be arranging annual DR. Bike and BikeRegister Bike Marking sessions so that students can have their bikes checked and get advice on how to maintain their bikes. During these sessions an experienced Dr Bike mechanic can make on-the-spot minor adjustments, advise on any maintenance issues, security mark bikes and upload them on to the national Bike Registry database.
