We have been advised of a incident in St Nick’s park where some young people were invited to get into a white van. They very sensibly told their parents who advised the police. This is a good reminder to reinforce the message to your children that, although all strangers are not dangerous and can be helpful in many instances, they should never get into a vehicle with a person they do not know and should report this immediately to the police.

Sixth Form Politics Trip to Westminster
On the 27 November, Upper and Lower Sixth Politics students travelled down to Westminster to experience a politically enriching trip seeing how parliament operates on a day-to-day basis.
The day began early leaving Myton at 7am. Once through the airport style security there was a guided tour from the oldest building on the parliamentary estate, the Great Hall built during the 1390s, through to the Commons and Lords chambers before returning again to the Great Hall.
Students had a Q&A session with Matt Western MP, where they were able to explore different aspects of Labour’s policy and ask questions relevant to Matt Western’s position as Warwick & Leamington’s MP. At lunchtime, in the Parliamentary Café, students met two ex-Myton students currently working in Parliament, who gave some excellent tips on how to be successful in A level politics, as well as how to pursue a career in the political environment.
After this encounter, students watched the speaker’s procession and sat in the visitors’ gallery of the House of Commons. There they watched an exciting debate on Home Office policy and witnessed an ‘Urgent Question’ on the current crisis in Gaza. In the chamber they saw well known politicians, including James Cleverly (Home Secretary) and Jeremy Corbyn (Labour Leader 2015-2019).
Finally, there was a quick visit to the House of Lords public gallery where they were given the opportunity to compare the different atmospheres of the two chambers, thus gaining an understanding of how legislation is made and how government is held to account in parliament.

Dangerous and Inconsiderate Parking
Following further reports of dangerous and inconsiderate parking from parents and neighbours, we would like to remind all drivers about the dangers of illegal and irresponsible parking.
Our Sixth Form students should make use of parking permits where possible to allow them to park on the school grounds and avoid parking in the neighbourhood. If you must park in the areas around the school please consider the impact on the residents before doing so.
As mentioned previously, incidents of dangerous and illegal parking can be reported here (photos and number plates can be uploaded). The safer neighbourhood team can also be contacted by either email on [email protected] or calling 01926 684361.
Drama and Dining Marquees
Please take a look at our fabulous new marquees which are now fully in place for use by our students. We are really pleased with how well these have turned out and they are a great replacement for the spaces lost to RAAC.
Further details can be found in this link to the case study by FEWS who did a fantastic job of getting these in place for us as quickly as possible – https://www.temporarystructures.co.uk/case-study/myton-school/
Cold Weather and Ice
The weather has been extremely cold this week. Please ensure your children wear coats over their blazers when they come to school. Gloves and hats are also recommended. If your child cycles to school, please encourage them to wear a helmet. The paths through the park are icy for both pedestrians and cyclists, please take care at all times.
Please also remind your child to keep away from frozen water on rivers. Children are often seen on the Kingfisher Pool and the river in St Nicholas’ Park when they freeze over. Please remind your children to stay off frozen rivers and lakes due to the risk of falling through the ice.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service have issued advice here on how to avoid incidents, and what to do if something does go wrong.
Our cold weather procedures have been sent out by SchoolPost this week.
Myton students head to Prison
On Tuesday 5 December the RE team took 55 GCSE RE students to Shrewsbury prison, to assess the realities of prison life and how it has changed throughout time, to be able to discuss the moral issues that occur as a form of punishment. Shrewsbury prison also used to carry out capital punishment and pupils were able to see where this took place, so the debates we have had in the classroom can feel more real and help pupils to decide their opinion on such ethical matters. The pupils were a credit to the school. It was a great day, enjoyed by all, even if it was very cold!
Myton: A Singing School
On Tuesday members of Warwick: a Singing Town were in school to lead a workshop for our Year 7 and 8 vocal group students in preparation for our Christmas performances. They engaged the students in some physical warm ups before concentrating on vocal technique and harmony singing.
Students had a great time with the end result sounding fantastic, and we are looking forward to hearing the group perform in the Christmas Concert on Tuesday 19 December 2023 at 7pm and again at our Carol Service in St Mary’s Church on the last day of term.
Thank you to Ms Harrisson for managing to take photos whilst singing and giving directions!
Music for the High Sheriff Awards
Ms Harrisson, Miss Cheung, Keiran, Year 11, Bear, Year 10, and Lilly, Year 8, were invited to provide the music at the High Sheriff Awards on Wednesday evening – this was a wonderful addition to a special evening for Myton.
Anti-bullying disco – Make Some Noise!
In recognition of anti-bullying week we held our Make Some Noise disco last Friday lunchtime. All students invited to the disco had been identified as standing up against bullying in some way, either by flagging instances of bullying, or by putting themselves forward as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. As you can see they had a lot of fun!
