Thank you to Coventry Poet Laureate John Bernard who delivered a number of assemblies to all of our students this week. John is a notable name in the spoken word scene with his blend of raw emotion, powerful storytelling and thought provoking insights. We hope John has inspired our students to find their voices through the art of poetry and music. John Bernard works alongside Guardian Ballers who will be working with Myton staff and pupils in the new year.

Vocal group visit to Warwick Hospital
Year 8 and 9 singers from our vocal group visited Warwick Hospital last week with representatives from Warwick – A Singing Town and charity Kissing it Better to entertain patients and staff with a mixture of popular songs and Christmas carols.
They hope to visit again in the New Year when a different group of students will have the opportunity to spread some musical cheer.
Christmas card competition winners
Congratulations to the winners of our Christmas card competition. Entries were so strong this year that we have 4 winners: Emma in Year 7, Iacob in Year 7, Alex in Year 7 and Kavi in Year 9. They all receive a £10 Amazon gift voucher and a pack of their printed cards. Well done to you all!
Kissing it Better
This year we have over 30 Sixth Form students who have signed up for the Kissing it Better volunteer programme. The students spend Wednesday afternoons visiting the elderly at Warwick Hospital or in school preparing resources for display in the wards or activities to take into hospital (e.g. crosswords, word searches). All of the students have been trained as ‘Dementia Friends’ (a training initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society).
Myton School alumni
We were thrilled to welcome back past students Alex, Julia, Abril and Dan this week, who returned to share their experiences of university, industry placements, and degree apprenticeships with our Year 13 students.
Criminology visit to National Justice Museum
Sixth Form Criminology students had the exciting opportunity to visit the National Justice Museum in Nottingham last week for an immersive learning experience. With its two authentic Victorian courtrooms, an 800-year-old prison featuring original Georgian cells, an exercise yard, and medieval dungeons, the museum brought the history of justice vividly to life.
Green powered go-kart
Design & Technology teacher Mr Campbell and a group of Year 10 students are currently building a green powered go-kart to race against other schools and colleges at nationwide Greenpower organised events. Greenpower provided a basic car kit that the team need to build to a race-ready standard! As you can see from the photo their progress is impressive but they still have some work to do before the car is ready to race, and they need funding to help them get there. Student have been fundraising by selling home baked cakes, but are also seeking support from local small businesses and companies for sponsorship. If you think you could offer any support please email Mr Campbell at [email protected]. Thank you.
Myton students win poppy poetry competition
Congratulations to Year 12 students Grace and Sophie who won a recent poppy poetry competition run by South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust. You can read their poem below. Well done to you both on a wonderful poem!
Soft toy appeal
Sixth Form students are collecting soft toys as part of their work for the Kissing It Better charity. The soft toys will be gifted to children in hospital. If you have any soft toys in good condition that you would like to donate please drop these off in the collection box by the main door in reception. The collection runs until 20 December.
Thank you to everyone who has made donations so far!
Christmas tree competition
Some of our students were joined by a local artist last week to make Christmas tree decorations for a tree decorating competition held at All Saints’ Church. The students had a lot of fun making their decorations and used our CARE values as inspiration for their designs.
