Dear Parents and Carers
The GCSE exam season started this week with our students completing their two-day art and photography exams. From this point on, it is a fairly full timetable of exams until the second half of June. This year we feel we have achieved a better balance of support for our students than ever before.
Either today or on Monday, all Year 11 students and parents will be receiving their personalised exam timetables which will run from Monday 14 May until Friday 15 June. These will show whether students are in exams, scheduled classes, booster classes or personal study time. There will be an accompanying letter which explains all the details, including where students can study, at what point they can start using the sixth form facilities and where they can use their own devices/smartphones to help their revision (so many resources are now online).
Your child may have told you that we will be identifying students whose homework, attendance and school records are excellent and show they can work independently. Parents of those students will have the option of allowing their child to study at home, opting into the classes they need. For others, whose records show continued support is vital, this offer will not be made and they will need to attend all the classes. They will notice that the class sizes are much smaller and they will get a lot of additional attention. This will all be explained in the letter accompanying the timetable.
In the meantime, it is worth looking online for tips on getting children ready for exams, they always focus on the importance of sleep, breakfast and plenty of water in the exams.
Best wishes
Andy Perry – Head Teacher
