We were thrilled to welcome back past students Alex, Julia, Abril and Dan this week, who returned to share their experiences of university, industry placements, and degree apprenticeships with our Year 13 students.
Dan (who left Myton in 2021) spoke during our fortnightly Speaker Week enrichment. He talked to students about life at university and the benefits of a placement year in industry. Students enjoyed hearing about Dan’s placement company, Samsung and the international travel that is involved in his role.
Alex, Abril, and Julia (who all left Myton in 2023) then led afternoon sessions with those Year 13 students with an interest in degree apprenticeships. All three students are engineers in training after securing their own degree apprenticeships and gave students advice on applications, interviews, online reasoning tests, and how best to approach these highly sought after placements.
Events like these reinforce the strength of our school community and the incredible potential of our students. We hope these sessions have inspired our Year 13 students to dream big, work hard, and embrace the opportunities ahead!
Here’s what Alex, Julia, Abril and Dan are up to now:
Alex is part of the Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Programme, working on Product Design and Development within the Special Vehicles, Driveline Transmission and Electrified Drive Unit Team at Jaguar Land Rover. Alex works hard to help design and test Driveline/EDUs within Special Vehicles, the most recent being Octa on the New Defender.
Julia is a civil and infrastructure engineer completing her degree apprenticeship at Warwickshire County Council and the University of Warwick, working with the Bridge & Structure Design team. “I am currently working on the feasibility stage of a future refurbishment scheme, getting in contact with local contractors to come up with repair solutions.”
Abril is currently enrolled in the Digital Technology Solutions (DTS) program and working with JLR as a software engineer. “During my current placement in the DevSecOps and Agile department, I focus on integrating software applications to enhance traceability between systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and streamline engineers’ workflows.”
Dan is currently a placement student at Samsung studying BA(Hons) Marketing at Liverpool John Moores University. He works in the European Consumer & Market Intelligence (CMI) team, responsible for gathering data from primary and secondary sources and presenting this back to the business to inform strategic decisions.
We are so proud to hear of their success after Myton!
