Dear Parents and Carers
We were delighted to welcome Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE into school this week. Kate captained the Great Britain hockey team to bronze in the London Olympics in 2012 and then to gold at the Rio Olympics in 2016. She was here to coach and motivate Myton children in their sport.
She spoke to the students about the importance of having a vision, a strong support network and believing in yourself. She was able to answer lots of questions from the students about her sport and her experience of taking part in the Olympics. The students were particularly interested in the process of giving a urine sample as part of the routine drugs test!
Kate then put the students through their paces with a coaching session where she taught them a range of skills. She praised the students’ determination and excellent attitude, and the enthusiasm of our PE staff: “Lovely students and such passionate and enthusiastic staff. Learnt some new skills, a few played hockey for the first time and we all had fun. What sport is all about!”
Kate’s visit was inspiring for us here at Myton. Thanks to her for coming, to the PE staff for making it all happen and to our students who enjoyed a morning of sport with someone who has reached the very top.
With best wishes
Andy Perry – Head Teacher
