Lunchtime club Scribblers and Bookworms are pleased to announce the winner of their recent Halloween short story writing competition as Max from Year 7 with his story, ‘Brown’s Frightful Night’. Congratulations to Max (you can read his story below) and to our runners up, Chloe, Chinwan and Emma from Year 7 who also entered impressive, scary stories! Thank you to our Year 8 students who led and judged the competition, Hannah, Zoe, Dhriti and Bella.
The group’s next genre focus will be thrillers and they will also be running a Christmas short story competition – more details of this in next week’s Weekly News!
Brown’s Frightful Night by Max, Year 7
Mr. Brown was out one night unaware of this scary fright.
He’d been to the shops to get socks and his daughter’s crocs.
He went to his car and off he popped down the road towards his humble abode.
He drove far down the M1 and to be honest the whole drive was quite a bum.
In the darkness full of fog he took a wrong turn around a bog
He drove up to his house, enticed.
His paradise, now crawling with mice and lice!
He walked up to the door, left wide open,
He thought, “Where’s my wife?” In the garden?
So, he walked inside the creaking old house
crept up the stairs,
heard an inhuman shout
so disturbing I cannot describe
to this day it sends shivers down his spine
Though it came from below he was forced to hide in a wardrobe
now fully aware of this frightful scare
he heard footsteps on every floor board
creak was the sound that came closer
ping went his phone
slam went the door
He opened his eyes and saw his wife, disguised!
Yes, it was all her joke!
A little Halloween fright all in this one, dark night.
