A group of students from Years 7 and 8 took part in this year’s Warwickshire Secondary Book Awards on Thursday 6 April. The students were asked to read six shortlisted books and vote on their favourite. The students were also able to participate by entering competitions or championing their favourite book.
Jacob Walden (Leycester House) won the competition for his fantastic drawings of scenes from two of the books, The Nest by Kenneth Oppal and Island by Nicky Singer.
Grace Thompson (Montgomery House) and Kate West (Oken House) went on stage to read an extract and spoke clearly and intelligently about their favourite book, The Boy at the Top of the Mountain by John Boyne. This book was the overall winner with The Nest coming second.
