Mrs Johnson’s Year 7 English class have been learning to carry out peer assessment recently. The students watched a video – Austin’s Butterfly – where getting effective feedback is shown to be fundamental to the student’s progress.
The students wrote spy stories then marked each other’s work with the acronyms WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If). They then went back to their spy stories to improve them, even though some of them found it tricky. They borrowed Miss Blackburn’s idea from her Maths lessons where saying “I can’t do it” or “It’s too difficult” counts as a swear word!
Demi Mancini said about the lesson: “I’ve learnt from the video on Austin’s Butterfly that it doesn’t take one try it could take more or less than six tries. It took Austin six tries to make his butterfly right. When we were writing our spy stories we had the chance to improve, using purple pens and peer marking. Peer marking helped me by understanding someone else’s view of my story.”
Well done 7YJ3!
