Our Year 8 students recently had the opportunity to hear a live performance by professional singers, The Gentlemen of St John’s, and to take part in a vocal workshop. The experience was part of the recently launched project, Warwick – a Singing Town, which aims to work with schools and amateur choirs over the next three years. We’re hoping this will be the first of many exciting opportunities for Myton students to access as part of the project.
The Gentlemen, who sing regularly in St John’s College Cambridge, as well as giving concerts in the UK and abroad, performed a Latin motet and close harmony version of Bear Necessities and demonstrated the different male voice types, before delivering an interactive workshop which involved laying on the floor at one point to practise diaphragmatic breathing. Within half an hour, they had the class singing a 3-part round with backing harmonies!
Our Music Coordinator, Mrs Harrisson said, “It was wonderful to see the students gain in vocal confidence through this experience which fitted in so well with their current learning on musical theatre”.
