Students develop skills such as empathy, self-value and resilience to live healthy, safe, fulfilling, responsible and balanced lives. To do this the lessons will temporally make explicit understanding and current value structure visible in order to give students the choice to change their value structures. There are a number of things that we need to provide to give them this opportunity. Provide accurate and balanced knowledge without judgement to allow students to challenge and make their own choices. Provide lessons and environments of which the primary focus is on knowledge-how not just knowledge-that. Provide opportunities for personal reflection on current value structure (rational and emotional) by regular examination of other conceptual frameworks and key contemporary issues. Regularly provide opportunities for students to practice using different frameworks of tacit knowledge.
